Summer 2002

Laser Number 4.

Carr’s have recently bought their fourth laser welding machine; another 100 watt Nd-Yag laser. The machine will increase the capacity of the shop by 33% and will go a long way to reducing the lead times from when the job is received, to when it is dispatched.

Phil Carr said “The policy for the new year is to reduce the lead times for jobs, so that small jobs can be guaranteed to be dispatched the same day. It is only the larger 6 plus impression tools, that will take a few days.

Weld only jobs must be done either on our while-u-wait service or go on the courier the same day.”

WE ARE NOW A QUALITY ASSURED COMPANY

Since our audit in March we are now a registered ISO 9001/2000 company.

This will mean we will be able to ensure customer satisfaction by increasing the quality of the service.

From now on any quality problem will be recorded and any trends monitored so that improvements can be implemented at all stages of the process.

All Carr’s suppliers of materials and tool-room services will have to be approved and monitored for their quality. This will help to guarantee the quality of our work.

MEDICAL PRODUCTION WORK

Many stainless steel or titanium instruments can be manufactured with laser welders. Currently Carr’s have small batches of various instruments to weld where very small sections are involved. As little as 0.1mm thick stainless steel can be welded to thicker sections and, as all welding is carried out under high magnification every component can be inspected.

Usually Carr’s will make a purpose built jig to hold the component in place for welding.

The cost of the jig can be charged for initially or added to the price per piece.

Welding and Fabrication at Carrs.

Carr’s second factory has been set up with conventional welding equipment. This enables us to design and manufacture small fabrications and welding systems.

Run as a separate company, Carr’s Welding Techniks do all our conventional welding services from Tig and Plasma to Mig and internal bore welding for our customers in Scotland.

Internet Enquiries

Since going online in 1998 we have had an increasing number of enquiries from the website. We ensure that we update the page regularly and make it straightforward to use. It is possible to download the specific literature you require and send enquiries on email. We have had a lot of interest from companies in Europe who have found us using this facility.

Computerised Job Control

We have recently installed a new computer system which was specifically written to our own design. This enables us to enter each new job onto the system and follow it through from the quotation stage to when it is delivered. This allows us to have an infallible system for recording all jobs entering the shop and all records can be accessed at any time.

The installing of this system this year has led to our reaching the standards necessary to fulfill the strict conditions of the ISO 9001 standard.
