Carr’s Welding can repair hardened tool punches and dies made from D2, A2 and a number of sintered steels like Vanadis 23. Only 60 RC hardness can be guaranteed on the repaired section, but laser welding does reduce the heat affected zone and any softening of the core hardness of a tool. Some sintered steels cannot be welded, so always check with the works, prior to sending in a tool to be repaired. Forming tools, plastic cropping tools, punches can all be welded. Please give as much information as possible when bring the work in.
