Injection Mould Tools

Carr’s have been welding and repairing tools for 14 years, and have a good grounding in the steels used, and why they wear out as well as, what to do about it.

Impact Damage A snapped ejector pin or trapped moulding can cause havoc on a tool if it closes up again on full pressure.  Carr’s laser weld damaged area’s on tools, with a similar steel.  Tools can then be re-machined, or if only slight damage, hand working at Carr’s can complete the repair.
Gas Erosion The gases that are present with some plastic materials can be very damaging to tool edges.  A flame retardant plastic can erode the edge of a P20 tool in one run.  Carr’s have to burn off (usually with the laser) the eroded areas, then restore them for re-machining.  Sometimes a more resistant steel can be added for extended tool life, dependant on the application.
